Auction
 |
Bells ringing
Crowd gathering
At the front of our house
To see the first auction in the street
Since we moved in 17 years ago
The sound of the auctioneer can be heard from the lounge room
I'm bidding farewell to this dear home
Where we brought up our kids
Where we journeyed through life
I hear the starting bid
The air is tense
I feel helpless and alone
As I sit in the lounge room staring at hubby
What must I do?
I look up at the statue of Guan Yin
Instantly I grab hold of my chanting beads
Starting my chants at the room
Amitabha, Amitabha, Amitabha
My mind was now in another world
All sounds of bidding have now left me
Stillness and calm
I need you even more
Please be with me
Please be in my heart
Amitabha, Amitabha, Amitabha
I hear rushing footsteps
The auctioneer and agent appear asking us whether to sell
I say no
Out they go
They proceed with the auction
I proceed with my chanting
Amitabha, Amitabha, Amitabha
It seems like seconds
The auctioneer and agent rush in again
Telling us they have sold
I tried to remain calm
Throughout the auctioning process
The agents could not believe
When I told them
I was chanting all along!
